Impact through empowerment

We know that changing the community starts with empowering those who live and work in it. Through leadership development, economic empowerment, health and education, we will impact not only the Tampa Bay community, but also the world.

"Fighting Childhood Obesity: Move to Lose It Walk/Run"

This signature event has been funded by a grant from Hillsborough Community College’s Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service grant for the last six years. “Fighting Childhood Obesity: Move to Lose It Walk/Run” a movement to assist our youth and their families with healthy food preparation. We realize there is a correlation between obesity problems with our children and food insecurities due to eating the wrong types of food because of healthy foods costing more money. The goal of this community project is to educate youth between ages 8-17 and their families with a three-fold activity, which includes health, wellness and nutrition education and provide 200 families with fresh fruits and vegetables.

Economic Empowerment

Sister-Nomic$

Sister-Nomic$ is a national initiative that provide educational workshops/seminars on economic empowerment to build the financial knowledge and skills of Black women and girls; and help Black-owned small businesses. The power to use your money wisely and to make enough to support your household rank high on the list of family necessities. We have programs under economic empowerment that speaks to Black women on how to start a business, how to invest, how to buy a home or basic money management or financial literacy 101.

Education

Additionally, local schools, community groups, and other non-profits received a personal invitation to attend.  To promote the local and national goals of NCBW, the summit includes a motivational and guest speakers aligned with the theme for the year.

Leadership

Passing the Torch Women of Excellence

One of the core values of NC100BW is to develop, support and recognize women leaders that have made significant contributions in the areas of health, education, public policy, and business entrepreneurship. Every year we recognize several women in our community that have outstanding influence and commitment who have made contributions to their area and impacted the community through their leadership. It also focuses on the up-and-coming women who are receiving the torch to carry on the legacy of making their own mark in the same areas. While they are making noticeable differences in the lives of others and letting their voices be heard on matters of importance they rise to be heard; especially when it comes to issues on the quality of life of the people in this community. We applaud their tenacity, their resilience, and the numerous accomplishments they have provided and have yet to provide to their people. We honor them and salute all the work they have put into raising the quality of life for the residents in the Tampa Bay Area.
